About Us

The "Sufia Foundation" is a non-profit, non-political, community-driven charitable organization dedicated to promoting Islamic knowledge based on the Quran and Sunnah to alleviate poverty regardless of gender, race, or religion, and empower communities through sustainable development, fostering dignity, and self-reliance for all. A group of Bangladesh-born US citizens embarked on their humanitarian initiatives in 2021 and established The Sufia Foundation in 2025 in two locations: Virginia, United States of America and Narayanganj, Bangladesh. The Sufia Foundation is named after the late mother Sufia Begum (May Allah have mercy on her), who dedicated entire life to her family. We are inspired by Islamic values and guided by our core values to ensure food, health, education, and equal opportunities for all. We envision a caring world where communities are empowered, social obligations are fulfilled, and people respond as one to the suffering of others. Through strategic partnerships and grassroots efforts, we collaborate with communities to implement sustainable solutions that address immediate needs and long-term development. Our mission is rooted in compassion, service, and the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to thrive.

May Allah (SWT) accept our good deeds and grant our mothers and fathers the highest place in Akhira and Doonya-Ameen.

Message from Salma Obaidul
President and Co-Founder, Sufia Foundation

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), messenger of Allah, and his family.

On behalf of the "Sufia Foundation", I express my sincere gratitude to all the compassionate brothers and sisters at home and abroad. Through the sincere wishes and support of everyone, Allah (SWT) has blessed us with the ability to gather in a centre of multifaceted human services like "Sufia Foundation". The sole aim of establishing the "Sufia Foundation" was to alleviate the burden of meeting people's basic needs and to devote ourselves to serving humanity without boundaries. Because the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), messenger of Allah, said:

“Whoever helps his brother in his need, Allah will relieve his need, and whoever removes a worldly hardship from his brother, Allah will remove a hardship from him on the Day of Resurrection.” (Abu Dawud: 4893)

It is narrated in a Hadith Qudsi that on the Day of Judgment, Allah (SWT) will say, "O son of Adam! I was sick, but you did not take care of me." Then the servant will say, "O my Creator, how can I take care of you, when you are the Almighty of the worlds?" Allah (SWT) will say, "Did you not know that My servant so-and-so was sick? Yet you did not serve him. Did you not know that if you had served him, you would have found Me there?" (Sahih Muslim: 6450)

Dear brothers and sisters! This hadith is even longer and in the hadith, mentioning more such things about serving humanity, at the end of each sentence, Allah (SWT) says - If you go to serve humanity, you will find Me there. That means Allah (SWT) can be found through service to creation.

Inspired by this great and generous teaching of Islam, we took the initiative of human service through the "Sufia Foundation". Because, amidst the busyness of daily life, personal needs, limitations of time and opportunity, and economic constraints, it becomes difficult to be personally engaged in human service alone. Therefore, if a center for human services can be established with the combined efforts of everyone, that work will be easy, smooth, and widespread. Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), so far, many institutions and organizations have been engaged in this great work and have succeeded. Keeping their work as an ideal, we have also stepped onto this path. The will of Allah (SWT) is the root of everything. Therefore, we pray to Allah (SWT) that He does not stop this journey midway, Ameen.

We hope that all humanitarians will join us. The "Sufia Foundation" is essentially your foundation. To help meet the basic needs of people, we have undertaken food distribution, cloths, free medical services, and education projects. With our own small capital, food distribution and medical services projects have already been implemented. In addition, a project to provide monthly allowances to some people who are unable to earn, are disabled or destitute has also been implemented on a small scale. One of the future projects of the "Sufia Foundation" is to establish Islamic Academia with the objective to emphasize the integration of Islamic knowledge with modern sciences and technologies to meet the challenges of 21st century.

We express our hope for everyone's sincere love, trust, cooperation, and participation. May Allah (SWT) include us among His accepted servants, Ameen!

Message from Mufti Zikrullah Bokht
Vice-President, Sufia Foundation

نَحْمَدُهُ وَنُصَلِّيْ عَلَى رَسُوْلِهِ الْكَرِيْمِ

We express our sincere respect to all the humanitarian and philanthropic individuals around the world on behalf of the "Sufia Foundation".

Dear well-wishing brothers and sisters! The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

 االرَّاحِمونَ يرحَمُهم الرَّحمنُ؛ ارحَموا مَن في الأرضِ يرحَمْكم مَن في السَّماءِ.

The Most Gracious is merciful to His merciful servants. If you are merciful to the people of the earth, Allah (SWT) of the heavens will be merciful to you. (Sunan Abi Dawud)

In addition to this holy saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), messenger of Allah (SWT), there are many other verses and hadiths that show that the most effective way to gain closeness to Allah (SWT) is to benefit and do good to people.

Inspired by Islamic beliefs, the stream of human welfare work has continued for ages. In the hope of getting closer to the beloved Allah (SWT), Muslim scholars have stepped onto the path of public welfare work and service in various ways, in which they have not made any religious or caste-based class distinction. We are guided by our code values and the practices of Islamic scholars, the "Sufia Foundation" has begun its journey with the noble goal of serving humanity. We pray to Allah (SWT) to help us turn this venture into a journey.

We hope that our 'small journey' will transform into a huge caravan with everyone's participation, Insha Allah (If Allah (SWT) wills).

و ما توفيقنا الا بالله العلي العظيم
